A handover ceremony was held at the Maarif Presidency after Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün was appointed as the Ambassador of Azerbaijan. On January 10, 2025, Prof. Dr. Akgün, who was appointed as the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Baku by the Presidential Decree dated January 10, 2025, said goodbye to Maarif, which he headed for 8 and a half years.
Members of Maarif Board of Trustees and Board of Directors, Department Heads and employees took part in the ceremony held at Maarif headquarters. During the ceremony, Mahmut M. Özdil, the newly elected President of Maarif, thanked Prof. Dr. Birol Akgün for his services and presented him with a bouquet of flowers. Prof. Dr. Akgün presented Özdil with a special ring symbolizing the maarif seal.
Prof. Dr. Akgün stated that during the Maarif Presidency, they made a great effort to carry out the work of the institution and emphasized the importance of projects such as the teacher academy and the science board, as well as improving the institution's corporate governance approach. “This great institution has now developed its own institutional management approach to a great extent,” Akgün said, adding that special attention should be paid to education and R&D activities.
Stating that he spent 8 and a half years at Maarif, Akgün thanked all the employees and wished success to the new President Mahmut M. Özdil and the new members of the Board of Trustees and Board of Directors of Maarif.
After the ceremony, the new President Mahmut M. Özdil thanked Birol Akgün and said, “I would like to thank Birol for his support and attitude for 8 and a half years. From now on, we will do our best to carry Maarif forward with the same determination and enthusiasm.”
Akgün said goodbye and was sent off from Maarif with applause.
Who is Mahmut M. Özdil?
Born in 1975, Mahmut M. Özdil graduated from Galatasaray University Faculty of Law in 2000. He completed his master's degree in public law at the same university. Özdil has conducted academic studies in the fields of administrative law and administrative trial law, lectured and worked as a legal consultant in this field. Since the establishment of Maarif, Mr. Özdil has served as a member of the Board of Directors and the Board of Trustees and is married with one child.
